ミランダ・ジュライとハレル・フレッチャーによるプロジェクト。一般の人々である参加者は「課題」を受け取り、指示に従って完成させ、写真やビデオ、テキストなどを送り、オンラインに公開された。課題は「Draw a picture of your friend's friend.」「Make the saddest song.」など、チャーミングなものばかり。2002年に始まり、2009年に終了するまで、8000人以上もの人がこのプロジェクトに参加したそう。終了した今もウェブサイトは消されずに、課題と回答を引き続き見ることができるということが本当に貴重で、これからもずっと保存されてほしい。一人ひとりが物語をもっているということは『あなたを選んでくれるもの』をはじめとしてミランダの根底にある気がする。個人的にもとても影響を受けたプロジェクト。同タイトルの本もいまとめられていてお気に入りだけど、ウェブサイトは「.mov」で動画や音声も見れる生っぽさがよい！
A project by Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher. Ordinary participants would receive an "assignment," follow its instructions, and submit photos, videos, or text, which were then published online. The assignments were all charming in their own way — things like "Draw a picture of your friend's friend" or "Make the saddest song." Starting in 2002 and running until 2009, the project drew over 8,000 participants. Even now, after it has ended, the fact that the website remains online, with all the assignments and responses still visible, feels precious — I hope it stays preserved forever. The idea that everyone carries their own story seems to run through everything Miranda makes, including her book The First Bad Man. This project had a real influence on me personally. There's now a book of the same name that I also love, but the website itself has a rawness to it — you can still watch the old .mov video and audio files — that I find really special.
